Health and Social Care is a new faculty and is led by one specialist teacher, who is committed to developing the course and raising achievement.  Upon successful completion of this course students will achieve a level 2 qualification which is the equivalent of one GCSE.

 

Why study Health and Social Care

The health and social care course is a vocationally-related qualification that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. The Cambridge Nationals in Health and Social Care will equip students with a sound, specialist knowledge along with skills for everyday use.

The course will also challenge all students by introducing them to demanding materials and skills, encouraging independence and creativity.

 

K3 and K4

All K3 and K4 learners will be registered to complete the OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate in Health and Social Care which consists of two mandatory units and two optional units.

 

R021: essential values of care for use with individuals in care settings (mandatory).  This is an examined unit, set and marked by OCR.

R022: communicating and working with individuals in health, social care and early years’ settings (mandatory).  This is a coursework unit and will be marked by the centre.

R023: Understanding body systems and disorders (optional). This is a coursework unit and will be marked by the centre.

R025: Understanding life stages (optional).  This is a coursework unit and will be marked by the centre.

 

Skills for Success and Career Opportunties

 

The pathways into work are vast in Health and Social Care.  This course will lead to careers in Adult nursing, Counsellor, Occupational therapist, Mental health worker, Social worker, Youth worker, Early years’ practitioner, Teacher, Chiropractor, physiotherapist.

 

In Health and social care, the skills which are developed are the following;

Empathy and listening, perseverance, commitment, humility, good manners, confidence as well as seeking and responding to feedback.
